Stephen King Spelled Sematary Wrong!

I kid you not; I stumbled upon a person pointing this ‘misspelling’ out the other day while browsing a fiction forum. Thankfully several Stephen King fans jumped in right away and explained to the reader why the word ‘cemetery’ was spelled ‘sematary’ on the cover of the novel Pet Sematary. To my surprise (and horror) the reader then went on to say that even if the kids who created the ‘Pet Sematary’ spelled it wrong in the book Stephen King should have still spelled it correctly on the cover. Really? I couldn’t believe the guy was serious about this, but he was and voiced this opinion several times despite all the criticism he was earning for it. I wanted to add my own thoughts on it at the time, but resisted since it seemed like the thrashing he was receiving didn’t need any help from me. Now, however, I just can’t resist bringing it up on my page because I’m still blown away that someone would be so adamant about something like this. It just doesn’t make sense to me. The worst part is that the person who posted it is so insistent about convincing people that he is right, and also can’t understand why no one is standing up against this insult toward the English language. How crazy is that? Is it even worth arguing about, or is it better to just shake your head and walk away? Anyone else ever run into anything like this? If so what did you do?

You can't argue with stupid.

Oh my goodness, this is the first time I've ever heard something like this. Once the reason for the misspelling is explained, that should be it, right? If this bothers the guy so much, I wonder what he thinks about businesses and stuff that purposely misspell their names like Kwik Mart or something like that.

Will, you are correct. I've tried and failed in such arguments more times than I'd like to count.

Michele, this was by far the most extreme of the silly debates I have ever seen on Stephen King's work. I couldn't wrap my mind around this person.
